Funny thing is.....the "friends" who would not come to my Runboard site when I left......turned me into a "evil" person for pointing this all out to them, for even having the gall to post on that disasters site. Found some pretty rotten stuff said (using that wayback page and my NEW IP from the campground)....they really posted some slams about me, that is for sure. Guess that is what I get for trying to point out that they had OTHER choices than pissin' and moaning and staying there... nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Mon, 11 Aug 2008 20:39:29 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223245,from=rss#post223245https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223245,from=rss#post223245I read a little bit of it a while back, and it all sounded pretty spot on with the way they operate there.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Thu, 07 Aug 2008 23:15:21 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223244,from=rss#post223244https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223244,from=rss#post223244Private forums and even profiles. On topic for the moment: This definitely seems like a handy feature for users who want to branch out a web site to Runboard as their forum host, but for the average user, such as myself, who is also a 100% RB user and would and has never been anywhere else and doesn't plan to get out on my own, I don't see much use for it. But as I said, there are some who do, so congrats on the find! And after reading all you two's convo, I am so glad I don't deal with any other host. I knew nothing then ( I mean REALLY nothing, never been on the internet EVER...barely could type, had no idea how to set up or run a site...they were my first...amazing that I am still going, after cutting my teeth THERE!) But he'd come running every time something went wrong, or he'd just pop in and say.."just checking"....That don't happen! I did not know that you did Charlz's avatar..that is waaaay cool! And I think I got the jest of the info. There was some incredible back stabbing SOB'S there....I had "what I thought" was a great "go between" when I started having problems (after Charlz left), she had a nice pinkish color... But in the end, she was just watching her own ass......and I believe she actually was the one who banned me. It's too bad you don't have any of old "Steve-o's" comments from that giant "sucky" board! They'd be loved by one board that simply exists to report E/Y crap!! Ever stopped by there, they are a real "Disaster" ??? quote:I wonder why supposedly savvy business people would keep a staff like that around. I wouldn't trust them enough to have a board on their system, so I sure as heck wouldn't trust them to have access to a website that might actually make me some money. Like I said......I don't think they actually care about THAT format type or those members or workers for that matter. I don't know what you'd call it, but I think they only "WANTED" it, the platform or space or whatever it is. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Thu, 24 Jul 2008 14:33:46 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223234,from=rss#post223234https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223234,from=rss#post223234I wonder what Charlz is up to these days. My guess is that he probably got fed up with the way they ran things and quit. Back when I first started animating stuff, I animated his horse avatar and gave it to him, and he replaced the old one with that one. Whenever something was screwing up at the board I ran, I'd PM him and he'd fix it right up if he could, or at least let me know pretty quickly if it was something that required a major coding fix. Of all the staff there, he was friendly and professional, and he's the only one on that staff that I knew I could count when it came to my board. Another staffer seemed ok from the couple of PMs I exchanged with her (regarding the "hacker" e*bios), but I've read some things that tell me not to trust her. Yet another one I met after she was no longer on staff there ("Pam," who also posted at Talking X***) claimed to have had root access to the system while she was on staff, and I didn't trust her at all. It's pretty funny how both TX and the provider had been "hacked" so many times, considering my suspicions about Pam, and also considering how involved Steve got with the whole troll business that mostly affected the TX board. I actually saw a post of his once on that big Survivor board (I'm sure you know which one) where he said on an ongoing "Ask Steve ____" thread that he fantasized (I think that was the word) about trolling, which only added to my suspicions about him. Add that to my suspicions about Pam, and it's not surprising what happened in 2005. I hope I was cryptic enough but not too cryptic to make sense, lol. At any rate, I wonder why supposedly savvy business people would keep a staff like that around. I wouldn't trust them enough to have a board on their system, so I sure as heck wouldn't trust them to have access to a website that might actually make me some money. Heck, I wouldn't even trust them to have access to my Imageshack account!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Thu, 24 Jul 2008 01:02:55 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223233,from=rss#post223233https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223233,from=rss#post223233The usual "workers" do daily delete and ban or hide posts that they consider "inflammatory"..... And the new owners, are savvy business people....I think they bought it as an investment or as a platform for something ELSE they want to do! I seriously doubt that "snake oil salesman, Labatt" actually pulled one over on them! Just pulled it over on all the members! And no, Charlz is no longer there.....several of the really good ones are gone! I used to have Charlz on my Xmas card list..he was really caring and decent! Glad he moved on, but I wish he was here....he'd fit right in! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Wed, 23 Jul 2008 01:31:50 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223232,from=rss#post223232https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223232,from=rss#post223232I didn't realize someone new had taken over, but just did a quick Google to see who you're talking about. I agree, it's a dumb idea to keep the same people there, especially since the former owners probably suckered them into paying a lot for it. Usually a little snooping around in "support" is all it takes to see the complaints that get posted, but maybe the mods there deleted all the more critical ones and banned the complainers? Now I don't know whether to dislike the new owners or to feel sorry for them. Do you think they had any idea then, or have any idea now, of the problems that go on under that staff? On a side note, is Charlz still there? I actually liked him, and he posted at Whoosh a couple of times. It's strange that he was the bug fixer but not the programmer, and it probably would have been less work for him to just program it himself than to have to fix all the bugs the programmer created.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Tue, 22 Jul 2008 02:08:36 +0000 Re: How to mask your forum namehttps://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223231,from=rss#post223231https://brunboardextra.runboard.com/p223231,from=rss#post223231WHOA....you said it there! I know what you're saying about the actual url not changing, and I never thought it would. If you go to the site via the runboard.com url, it won't be accessing the frameset, because you're not going to the url of the frameset. Likewise, if you enter the url that's created through the 3rd party provider, you're only visiting the frameset that happens to show your board in that frameset. Unfortunately, if someone wants to save a particular thread page to their favorites when it's displayed through this frameset, they can't just use the "bookmarks" option on their browser's toolbar, because that would only bookmark the frameset that takes you to the main page of the board. Using Firefox, someone would have to right-click on the page, hover on "This frame," and then click on "Bookmark this frame," which most people probably wouldn't know how to do. Further, they would probably go the normal (toolbar) route, not realize they're not bookmarking the actual thread page, and become frustrated later when they can't find the page they thought they had bookmarked. In addition to framesets being horrible for search engine rankings, this is a major reason why I would never put any site of mine in a frameset, which is all you're doing if you use a service like no-ip.com. I appreciate that you have shared something with us that seems handy on the surface, and hope my negative review of this one doesn't deter you from posting others that might be really handy in the future. Rick, if you were going to do this for rbbt.net like you described, all you'd have to do is set up a frameset on rbbt.net and display your board through that. If you used a 3rd party provider to do that, it wouldn't have an rbbt.net url, plus you'd probably have to pay them to get rid of the white bar.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 06 Jul 2008 19:04:10 +0000
